'Sakuntala' - Vintage Revival Geva Kai Korvai threadwork Kanjivaram

The 'Sakuntala' saree is a revival of a 60 year old vintage saree from my mother's trousseau, one she much loves and wore on many many happy occasions. This saree woven completely with Adai weaving, has the body in the vintage 'Geva' color which is a shade not made these days and borders are Kai Korvai borders in paasi pachchai or moss green. The motifs on the borders are very unique 'Godhumai' i.e wheat grain motifs in golden and silver color along with Meenakari paisleys, the paisleys are also in the vintage style. Our respected master weaver has managed to get the right Geva shade and retained the essence and beauty of the original saree and enhanced it with more design elements. While my mother's saree has single side Korvai border in zari, this revival version has Korvai borders on both sides and is done completely in threadwork to make it more versatile. The pallu of this stunning saree has 4 bands of Godhumai motifs bounded by paisleys; while the original saree has only two bands of motifs on the pallu; this revival saree comes with a blouse fabric in the same paasi pachchai as borders and pallu, unlike the original saree which did not have blouse fabric.
